Galileo Gold Aiming For Lockinge

Last year's QIPCO 2,000 Guineas winner Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) is likely to make his seasonal resumption in the G1 Lockinge S., which is sponsored by his owner, Al Shaqab Racing.

The Hugo Palmer-trained colt was one of the leading lights of the 2016 Classic generation, adding the G1 St James's Palace S. to his Newmarket triumph.

Speaking at Al Shaqab's Emiri Stable in Qatar during the HH The Emir's Sword Festival, racing manager Harry Herbert said, “He has done unbelievably well. He's stronger, filled out and he'll be aimed at the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes at Newbury in May.”

Herbert also issued updates on the dual Group 1 winner Qemah (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) and her stable-mate Zelzal (Fr) (Sea The Stars {Ire}), winner of the G1 Prix Jean Prat for Jean-Claude Rouget.

He said, “We're absolutely delighted that Sheikh Joaan has kept all three Group 1-winning milers in training. Qemah was a brilliant winner of the Coronation S. and the Prix Rothschild. She has done very well over the winter.

“Zelzal won the Prix Jean Prat and he has physically done very well and to have all three coming into their 4-year-old year, we're expecting big things.”
