Frosted Retired to Darley

Frosted | Sarah K. Andrew

Godolphin's homebred Frosted (Tapit–Fast Cookie, by Deputy Minister), a three-time winner at the highest level, including a tour-de-force in the GI Metropolitan H. in 2016, has been retired and will enter stud at Darley at Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Kentucky, Darley announced Monday. He will stand for $50,000.

Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the imposing grey won the GI Wood Memorial S., and GII Pennsylvania Derby during his 3-year-old season. He also ran second that year in the GI Belmont S., GII Jim Dandy S., GII Remsen S. and GII Holy Bull S. Third in the GI Travers S. and fourth in the GI Kentucky Derby, Frosted really blossomed as a 4-year-old, adding a score in the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 in the spring at Meydan, prior to returning stateside and demolishing rivals in a new stakes record of 1:32.73 in the Metropolitan by 14 1/4 lengths at Belmont, before adding the historic GI Whitney S. upstate at Saratoga in August. Frosted was also a close third in this year's GI Woodward S. and retired with a record of 19-6-6-2 and earnings of $3,972,800.

“It's very special to retire a horse of Frosted's caliber, but even more so in that he accomplished so much as a homebred, racing in Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin silks,” said Darley's Chief Operations Officer Dan Pride. “His Metropolitan H. was one for the ages, and add to that his great pedigree and tremendous physical appearance and you've got all the pieces in place for a sire of the future.”

Added McLaughlin, “It was an honor and a pleasure to train a horse like Frosted. Without a doubt, he's one of the best that I've had the privilege of training. I look forward to having a few of his babies in the barn in the future.”

Out of GII Cotillion H. heroine Fast Cookie, who also placed in an additional five graded stakes, Frosted's second dam is MGSW and GI Milady Breeders' Cup H. runner-up Fleet Lady (Avenue of Flags). She is responsible for champion juvenile male Midshipman (Unbridled's Song), who captured the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile and also stands at Darley America.

Frosted will be available for inspection during the Darley Open House from noon to 3:00 p.m. daily through Nov. 18, alongside GI Kentucky Derby hero Nyquist (Uncle Mo), who also joins the Darley roster for 2017.
