Freedman Granted Singapore License

Lee Freedman | Racing and Sports

Australian Hall of Fame trainer Lee Freedman has been granted a license to train in Singapore. Freedman, who currently trains in partnership with his brother Anthony in Victoria, has won five Melbourne Cups, including the 2004 and 2005 editions with Makybe Diva (GB) (Desert King {Ire}). He has also trained the winners of four Golden Slippers, four Caulfield Cups and two Cox Plates.

Freedman retired from training in 2011 after a decline in success of his stable and filled various industry roles including director of racing to top owner Lloyd Williams and advisor to New Zealand's Pencarrow Stud. He entered a brief training partnership with Graeme Rogerson before returning to partner with brother Anthony in November 2014.

Freedman is the latest in his family to embark on an overseas training career; brother Michael trained in Singapore for nearly 10 years, returned to Sydney for 12 months and starts training in Hong Kong this season.
