Flying Artie Injured; Out Until Spring

G1 Blue Diamond S. runner-up Flying Artie (Aus) (Artie Schiller) is suffering from sesamoiditis and will be spelled until the spring, according to Racing.com. Trainer Mick Price told that site the condition was discovered after a routine workout while the colt was preparing for the Apr. 2 G1 Sires' Produce S.

“[Jockey Damien [Oliver] rode him [Saturday] morning and he wasn't 100% happy with him and he's got sesamoiditis,” Price said. “He's aggravated an area above the inside sesamoid, near front. It's due to immaturity and the horse needs to spell for a couple of months. He's a young horse so hopefully he should be OK. Hopefully he'll be alive and well for the Caulfield Guineas.”

Flying Artie broke his maiden in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude Feb. 13 before finishing an unlucky second to stablemate Extreme Choice (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) in the Blue Diamond. He was third in last weekend's G1 Golden Slipper.
