Dalham Hall Stud's first-season sire Pinatubo (Ire) was off the mark on Thursday as his son Andesite (GB) battled to success in York's Frank Whittle Partnership ebfstallions.com Novice S. Sent off the 7-2 second favourite for the six-furlong test, Clipper Logistics' half-brother to the G2 Queen Mary S. and G2 Temple S. winner Dramatised (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) travelled notably strongly behind the leading duo early but looked booked for second as Yah Mo Be There (GB) rolled by in his bid to become the first winner for his sire Mohaather (GB). It was not until the dying strides that the Karl Burke trainee edged ahead and at the line the margin was a short head, with 3 1/2 lengths separating two smart colts and the remainder.

“If I'm honest, I was quite surprised he battled back because he hasn't been off the bridle at home so that's the first time and I thought we were beaten, so fair play to him,” Burke said. “He's a lovely horse, but I heard Richard Fahey say the other day that a lot of good horses do things easy at home and then first time out they often don't know what to do and Newmarket horses have often been on the grass a lot more, especially with the wet winter. I'll speak to Steve [Parkin] about Royal Ascot, but he's certainly worthy of going there.”

The dam, who captured the Listed Empress S. and was third in the G3 Prix du Calvados, is responsible for the high-class Dramatised (Ire) (Showcasing {GB}) who took the G2 Queen Mary S. and G2 Temple S. and was runner-up in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Also kin to the dam of the GII Buena Vista S. and GIII Megahertz S. winner and GI Gamely S. runner-up Quattroelle (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}), her yearling colt is by Showcasing (GB).
