Fifteen Potential Rivals For Winx

Saturday will see the next instalment in the epic story of Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) as the great mare chases her 19^th consecutive when she lines up in the G2 Chelmsford S. at Randwick. Fifteen rivals have thrown their hat in the ring to take on Winx on Saturday including stablemate Foxplay (Aus) (Foxwedge {Aus}) who holds the distinction of being the closest runner up to Winx on her last 15 starts. Last time out in the G2 Warwick S. Winx dwelt in the stalls and forfeited a good four lengths to the field and in effort to keep the mare more settled but alert, trainer Chris Waller will fit Winx with a hood for the race. “She wears the ear muffs in her trackwork and she works every day in them and it just helps block out the background noise,” he explained. “She wears them at the races and we take them off as soon as she leaves the parade ring but she will wear them in the Chelmsford. It's simply like wetsuit material. It blocks out 20 per cent of the sound and she will still hear 80 per cent.” Assuming Winx comes through her test on Saturday as everyone anticipates she will then contest the G1 George Main S. two weeks later at Randwick Sept. 16.
