Eziyra Takes Aim at Kilternan

Leopardstown's quality-lined card on Saturday also includes the G3 KPMG Enterprise S., or Kilternan S., with the 3-year-olds again strongly represented and His Highness The Aga Khan's Eziyra (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) taking prominent rank. Third in the July 15 G1 Irish Oaks at The Curragh, the homebred returned from a break to capture Cork's G3 Give Thanks S. on Aug. 8.

Of the Ballydoyle trio, Ryan Moore is on the Aug. 10 G3 Ballyroan S. scorer Spanish Steps (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) while Donnacha O'Brien is charged with reviving the fortunes of last year's G1 Epsom Derby runner-up US Army Ranger (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). Aidan O'Brien said, “Spanish Steps won a group race at Leopardstown on some nice ground and he went to York after that where he was a little bit disappointing [when fifth in the G2 Great Voltigeur] on soft ground, so the better the ground the more it will suit. He's a very straightforward, decent, honest horse. Group 3 level should be well within his compass, maybe even Group 2 and possibly Group 1 in time. US Army Ranger has been frustrating, I placed him badly, I'd say. You'd imagine he'd stay, but some things haven't been right with him. We're on a recovery mission with him.”

Qatar Racing's Cannonball (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) is on an upward curve and is unexposed, having scored over 10 furlongs at Roscommon on Aug. 8.
