Equine Welfare Guidelines Published by TBA

A set of industry guidelines has been developed by the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) Equine Welfare Working Group in collaboration with a number of thoroughbred breeders and industry stakeholders. The aim of the guidelines is to provide information and benchmarking of practices that are relevant to the breeding and raising of thoroughbreds as future athletes and they dovetail with the basic principles of horse care detailed within the UK Government's Codes of Practice for the Welfare of Horses. There are also a series of supporting videos available to view on TB-Ed under the resources menu.

TBA Chief Executive Claire Sheppard said, “The publication of the TBA Equine Welfare Guidelines for breeders actively demonstrates the strength of the commitment of the TBA to the welfare of thoroughbreds being the primary consideration at all stages of the breeding life cycle. The Guidelines describe and quantify common stud management practices, and will be of particular benefit for those who are new to the industry. It's themes will also be developed through future educational content for TB-Ed courses and resources, and presentations at the annual Stud Farming Course and other TBA educational seminars.”
