The G1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan on Dubai World Cup night is shaping up to be another truly international contest. Last year's race saw runners from France, Japan, the U.S., Britain and Hong Kong lock horns and this year's edition Mar. 26 is beginning to look similar with the news that Japan's Duramente (Jpn) (King Kamehameha {Jpn}) is set to take up the challenge. Last year's dual Classic winner made a successful seasonal debut in the G2 Nakayama Kinen Feb. 28 and connections are keen to take on some of the world's best middle distance horses with a view to other targets later in the season.

Speaking to the Racing Post, Shunsuke Yoshida, representative of owners Sunday Racing Co Ltd said, “Dubai World Cup night is an important meeting watched by the world and the prize is big. I had requested this challenge to the trainer Noriyuki Hori, if his condition had been fine. The next target after returning to Japan is not fixed but I would like to make the Arc.”

The Sheema Classic is also on the agenda for Roger Varian's Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who made a smooth seasonal debut in the G2 Dubai City Of Gold at Meydan Saturday.

Varian commented, “He has come out of the race really well. I saw him in the stables before flying back and he looked as though he had taken the race really well. We have three weeks now and it is all systems go for the Dubai Sheema Classic.”
