Dolphus Eyes LeComte

Dolphus (Lookin at Lucky), a half-brother to Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra (Medaglia d'Oro), could make his stakes debut in the Jan. 16 GIII LeComte S. at Fair Grounds. A determined debut winner going six furlongs at Fair Grounds Nov. 22, the chestnut colt is coming off a third-place effort in a Dec. 18 optional claimer going the LeComte's one-mile-and-70-yard distance. Dolphus worked four furlongs in :50.40 Saturday.

“He had a great work yesterday and has been training well,” trainer Joe Sharp said. “He's doing better than he did before his last race and the 'a -other-than' didn't fill, so we may go to the LeComte with him. It depends on how it shapes up.”

“My personal vote would be to run,” Sharp continued. “We've always had that race in our minds and he gained a ton out of his last race. He physically looks more athletic and is starting to lose that baby fat and look like an older horse.”

Also considered possible for the LeComte are the two horses who finished ahead of Dolphus in his last outing: Pinnacle Peak (Yes It's True) and Tom's Ready (More Than Ready).
