Csaba Retired to Pleasant Acres Stallions

Bruce Hollander and Cary Shapoff's Csaba (Kitten's Joy–High Chant, by War Chant), his prolific turf sire's most-accomplished runner on the main track, has been retired from racing and will enter stud for the current breeding season at Pleasant Acres Stallion in Morriston, Florida. According to trainer Phil Gleaves, the 6-year-old will stand for an introductory fee of $2,500.

Bred in Kentucky by Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Csaba pummeled his foes by 9 1/4 lengths to earn his first black-type victory in the El Kaiser S. at Calder and missed by a nose in an off-turf renewal of the GII Hall of Fame S. at Saratoga in the summer of 2012. The 14-length winner of the rained-off Tropical Park Derby that fall, the bay defeated his elders by better than seven lengths in the GIII Fred Hooper H. and closed the season with a tally in the Harlan's Holiday S. across town at Gulfstream.

Csaba carried that solid form into his 4-year-old season, winning the GIII Hal's Hope S. in Hallandale before successfully defending his Hooper title that December and added last year's Memorial Day H. and Skip Trial S., both over the Calder main. He retires with 13 wins from 36 starts and earnings of $682,440.

“He retires sound, and he continues that prolific Northern Dancer sire line through Kitten's Joy,” Gleaves commented. “He made 36 starts over four seasons at a very high level, and I think he'll be well received, most notably because he is the best son of Kitten's Joy on the dirt and his durability was without question.”
