Copano Rickey on Top at Morioka

Copano Rickey | JRA

Japan's champion dirt horse of 2015, Copano Rickey made it two on the bounce with an easy win in the NAR's G1 Mile Championship Nambu Hai at Morioka on Monday after saluting in his third Listed Kashiwa Kinen (JPN-G1) at Funabashi on May 5. Tracking one off the fence and several lengths off the leaders through the early going, Copano Rickey mounted his challenge on the final bend, swept past a stubborn pacesetter Nobo Baccara in midstretch and charged home a four-length winner. Nobo Baccara clung tenaciously to take second by a neck over the rallying King's Guard.

A two-time winner of the G1 February S. in 2014 and 2015, the entire had been out of the top three in four subsequent starts since taking the 2016 edition of the Mile Championship Nambu Hai last October, including a 14th two starts back in the February S.

Pedigree Notes…

Since Copano Rickey, Copano Nikita produced the winning Copano Charlie (Jpn) (Agnes Digital) in 2012, the placed duo of Copano Milion (Jpn) (Vermilion {Jpn}) in 2013 and Copano Levine (Jpn) (Gold Allure {Jpn}) in 2014 and her last known produce is the unraced 2-year-old Copano Jackey (Jpn) (Gold Allure {Jpn}). By the late quality dirt-sire Gold Allure, Copano Rickey's extended family contains the Japanese MGSW Sunrise Pegasus (Jpn) (Sunday Silence).
