Competitive Group for Pennine Ridge

Camelot Kitten | Coady

A well-matched field of 10 will line up for Saturday's GIII Pennine Ridge S., the local prep for the $1.25-million GI Belmont Derby Invitational July 9.

Camelot Kitten (Kitten's Joy), a narrow last-out winner at odds of 18-1 of the GII American Turf S. on the GI Kentucky Derby undercard, has been installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite. Never a factor in the 2015 GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Keeneland, the full-brother to GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint hero Bobby's Kitten began his sophomore campaign with a runner-up finish in a turf allowance in Lexington Apr. 13.

“He came out of the last race well and has been training good,” trainer Chad Brown said of the Ken and Sarah Ramsey homebred. “He gives me the impression he'll be able to handle the extra distance.”

Brown will also be represented by grassy Aqueduct debut winner Call Provision (Lemon Drop Kid) and GIII Palm Beach S. hero Converge (Sidney's Candy). The latter was a non-threatening sixth in the American Turf.

“It's a solid field,” Brown added. “I think all three of my horses fit well and all three are training great.”

Highland Sky (Sky Mesa), a troubled fourth in Belmont's GIII Pilgrim S. last term, enters off a last-to-first tally in Aqueduct's Woodhaven S. Apr. 23.
