The nominations for the 29th Cartier Racing Awards, to be announced at the Dorchester in London on Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, were released on Sunday, with dual Arc heroine Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}), Cartier Horse of the Year in 2017, nominated in both that category and in the Older Horse category, an award she won last year. Fellow Horse of the Year nom Blue Point (Ire) (Shamardal) is also up for Cartier Sprinter, and Cartier Older Horse. Magical (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) received nominations for both Horse of the Year and Cartier Older Horse, while G1 Investec Oaks heroine and Cartier 3-Year-Old Filly nominee Star Catcher (GB) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is the lone 3-year-old up for Horse of the Year. Last year's Cartier Stayer Stradivarius (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) is up again for that category, as well as the Horse of the Year award and Cartier Older Horse award. 2019 G1 Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victor Waldgeist (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) received nominations for both Cartier Older Horse and Cartier Horse of the Year. In addition to the eight equine awards, there is also the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit. Public voting for the Cartier Racing Awards opened on Oct. 23 and ended at noon local time on Nov. 5. The winners are determined through points earned by horses in Pattern races (30%), opinions of a panel of racing journalists/handicappers (35%) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph plus ITV Racing viewers (35%).
