GET THE PRIZE (c, 3, Candy Ride {Arg}–Hondo's Way, by Giant's Causeway) strode home a dominant 2 3/4-length winner of his debut at Fair Grounds Saturday. The bay colt, an 8-1 shot, was away well and was soon at the head of affairs, setting fractions of :22.04 and :45.73 with New Frontier (Speightstown) in close attendance. He extended his advantage down the lane and continued to find more even as Bourbon Calling (Dialed In) closed late for second. New Frontier was third. Get the Prize breezed a quarter in :21 flat at last year's OBS March sale before selling for $410,000. He is bred on the same Candy Ride–Giant's Causeway cross as Horse of the Year Gun Runner and on the extremely potent Candy Ride–Storm Cat cross that has produced the likes of champion Shared Belief and last week's GII San Vicente S. upsetter Sparky Ville. Get the Prize's dam is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Nothing But Fun (Dixie Union). She produced a Quality Road filly in 2017 who subsequently sold for $150,000 at Keeneland September, and brought $42,000 herself at Keeneland January '18 in foal to Include. After foaling that Include filly she, was bred back to Smart Bid. Sales history: $125,000 Ylg '17 KEESEP; $410,000 2yo '18 OBSMAR. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $25,800.
