Dylan Browne McMonagle was reported to be in good spirits on Wednesday after his heavy fall at Bellewstown the previous evening that saw him taken to hospital.
The Irish champion jockey was thrown from the fatally-injured Mosel in the opening contest, with the meeting subsequently being abandoned after an unrelated incident in the second race saw two further fallers.
Speaking on the Nick Luck Daily Podcast, Dr Jennifer Pugh, chief medical officer for the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), said, “Dylan had a good night. Obviously, it was a significant fall, but he's in a really good position and very stable overnight. He's doing remarkably well given the seriousness of the fall.”
She added, “He'll be out for a number of weeks, but we're in a very positive place compared to where we were yesterday. A huge thanks to everybody on the day who took such good care of him.
“There are the standard return to ride protocols. It's different for every jockey and it's all very individualised [rehabilitation]. We will know more over the next few days with regards to Dylan.
“He's a remarkable young man. Even in the throes of everything that happened yesterday evening, he maintained all his manners. He's a pleasure to deal with.”
Meanwhile, Wednesday's National Hunt meeting at Bellewstown was initially given the go-ahead after the IHRB carried out a preliminary review of Tuesday's incidents, but that too was later abandoned.
Whilst the first five races on the card were completed without incident, safety concerns were soon raised after a horse contesting the sixth race slipped on the bend, causing the last two races to be called off.
A statement from the IHRB on X said, “The Raceday Stewards reviewed an incident in Race 6 involving Garrick Painter, ridden by Simon Torrens, where Garrick Painter slipped up.
“The Raceday Stewards met with a delegation of Riders, the IHRB Clerk of the Course, representatives of the Irish Racehorse Trainers Association and the Racecourse Manager.
“Having reviewed the footage and considered the observations, the Raceday Stewards determined that in circumstances where they cannot be satisfied that racing should continue due to safety concerns, it is with deep reluctance, they decided that there was no option but to abandon the remainder of the fixture under the provisions of Rule 10.”
