Broken Vow Colt Busts Through Seven Figs at OBS

A big-barreled son of Pin Oak Stud's Broken Vow became the first horse to crash through the seven-furlong plateau at the OBS April Sale, hammering for a sales-topping bid of $1.2 million to Mike Bell's Breeze Easy. Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, as hip 901, the Florida-bred chestnut was purchased as a weanling by JSM Equine for $55,000 at the Fasig-Tipton November sale in late 2014 before being snapped up by an outfit called Solana Beach Sales for $105,000 at last year's Keeneland September sale. Out of the MSW Haddie Be Good (Silver Deputy), the colt is a half-brother to the stakes-winning juvenile Story to Tell (Bluegrass Cat) and turned in a powerful quarter-mile work in :20 4/5 during last week's under-tack show. This is also the extended female family of Grade I-winning turf mare Sweet Talker. Bell has been in the Thoroughbred business for about three months.
