Bowman Set to Appeal Suspensions

Jockey Hugh Bowman, the regular pilot of superstar mare Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}), is set to appeal both careless riding suspensions he incurred on the weekend, racing.com reported. Bowman formally lodged an appeal with Racing NSW stewards on Monday and is going to do the same with New Zealand officials on Tuesday in an effort to be aboard the Chris Waller trainee when she resumes in the Feb. 17 G2 Apollo S.

Bowman currently needs his suspensions reduced by five days. He earned the first infraction from his winning ride aboard Tswalu (Aus) (Northern Meteor {Aus}) at Warwick Farm last Friday, which would suspend him from Feb. 4-15. Those dates were altered however, following his ride aboard Five To Midnight (NZ) (Domesday {Aus}) at Ellerslie on Saturday and he is now slated to be suspended from Jan. 29-Feb. 10 for the Warwick Farm suspension. Bowman's New Zealand suspension would then begin on Feb. 10 and last through Feb. 21. A date for the appeal with Racing NSW is yet to be confirmed.
