Spendthrift Farm's Beholder (Henny Hughes) is back to normal Wednesday after spiking a slight fever Tuesday morning caused by the stress of shipping from California to Kentucky Monday. The two-time champion did not go to the track Tuesday or Wednesday morning, but will exercise over the Keeneland surface for the first time Thursday morning when she returns to her regular routine.

“She is doing very well today,” trainer Richard Mandella said during a media teleconference Wednesday. “[Tuesday] morning, the first morning after she got here, she had a temperature and she just was suffering from what we would call shipping fever. I just think it was brought on by the fact she was really tense on the plane. Consequently, with a little bit of treatment, she is doing great. Her blood has corrected itself and her temperature has been good since [Tuesday] morning. I'm thinking I am probably going to gallop in the morning. We will see how that goes, but I think we are back to normal.”

Mandella added that she was still on track for the GI Breeders' Cup Classic and was doing so well Wednesday morning, he planned to get her out a bit to take the edge off.

“Today she is jumping out of her hide,” the Hall of Famer said. “We are just getting ready to ride her under the stable here this afternoon, just to do a little something with her and then we will gallop her [Thursday] morning.”
