GI Breeders' Cup Turf contender Metaboss (Street Boss–Spinning Yarns, by Free House) fractured a sesamoid while galloping over the Santa Anita turf course Wednesday morning and was retired.
“Metaboss is officially retired,” Mersad Metanovic, who formed the partnership that owns Metaboss, tweeted. “Thank you for everything. Thank you for your heart and courage, You owe us nothing, thank you.”
Winner of last term's GIII El Camino Real Derby while under the care of trainer Jeff Bonde, the 4-year-old colt most recently finished fourth in the GII John Henry Turf Championship S. for trainer Phil D'Amato. The chestnut retires with a record of 12-3-2-2 and earnings of $300,420.
