One horse that will probably target 'Glorious Goodwood' is Magical Memory (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}) with a drop down to five furlongs on the cards following his disappointing effort in the G1 July Cup. The Charlie Hills-trained gelding was a well-supported second favourite for the race, but he never managed to land a blow under Frankie Dettori.
“He's fine, but Frankie felt at no stage did he ever get a clear run,” said Sam Hoskins, racing manager for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds. “He would never have beaten Limato, but we're a bit disappointed. He's not had a hard race and we might try him over five furlongs next, as he's got a huge cruising speed. The obvious races are the [G2] King George at Goodwood and the [G1] Nunthorpe at York.”
It was the first time Magical Memory had finished out of the top four in his last 11 runs, so Hoskins is happy to draw a line through the performance and look to the future.
“He might not have run his race on Saturday, but hopefully he will next time,” concluded Hoskins.
