Anodin Colt Takes the Chenes

After a Deauville festival spent chasing the tails of the British juveniles in all of the group prizes, French pride was restored at ParisLongchamp on Sunday as Jean-Louis Bouchard's acquisition Anodor (Fr) (Anodin {Ire}) also defended his unbeaten record successfully in the G3 Prix des Chenes. Off the mark with a degree of comfort on his sole start in a 7 1/2-furlong contest at Deauville Aug. 7, the even-money favourite found himself in front from the break with Aurelien Lemaitre keen to save something for the finale. Not pressed throughout, the bay was able to kick in midstraight and earn a straightforward two-length success from the 33-1 shot Insandi (Fr) (Anodin {Ire}) for a one-two for the sire. “This was a test and he did extremely well,” trainer Freddy Head said. “He was very relaxed in front and is a horse with a lovely temperament and a very nice kick. We'll see how he comes out of this, but I don't want to over-race him as a two-year-old as I'm convinced he'll be much better at three. Of course, we have to consider the [Oct. 7 G1 Prix] Jean-Luc Lagardere, as it is the logical next race but we don't have to run there. It could be that we'll save him for next season, but we'll see in the next two weeks.”

Anodor is the only foal out of Decize (Fr) (Kentucky Dynamite), whose dam is a half-sister to two black-type performers headed by the listed-placed Katerini (Fr) (Cacique {Ire}) who in turn produced the G3 Prix Texanita winner Aladdine (GB) (Naaqoos {GB}) and the G3 Geelong Cup runner-up Gallic Chieftain (Fr) (Tamayuz GB}). The fourth dam Navratilovna (Nureyev), winner of the G2 Prix d'Astarte, is a full-sister to the G3 Prix de la Porte Maillot winner and G1 Irish 1000 Guineas runner-up Vilikaia and a half-sister to the G1 Prix de la Salamandre heroine Maximova (Green Dancer). The latter had in turn five black-type winners to her credit, most notably the G1 Prix de la Foret hero and sire Septieme Ciel (Seattle Slew) and the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Macoumba (Mr. Prospector). Decize's unnamed yearling colt is by Youmzain (Ire).
