All Well With 'Toast' After Comeback

Toast Of New York and Jimmy McCarthy at Lingfield | Racing Post

Toast Of New York (Thewayyouare) was reported none the worse following his first start in over three years when he made a winning comeback at Lingfield on Wednesday. The Al Shaqab Racing owned entire had not run since been touched off by Bayern (Offlee Wild) in the GI Breeders's Cup Classic at Santa Anita in 2014 but trainer Jamie Osborne produced him in good shape to record a comfortable victory over the 102 rated Petite Jack (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}). “He's 100 per cent this morning, which is great news. Jamie is really happy with him. The legs are good and he's come out of it really well, which is fantastic, ” said Al Shaqab's racing manager Harry Herbert on Thursday.

Thoughts will now turn to future targets for the 6-year-old and given his ability to show top class form on dirt, Meydan in March is a definite possibility. “I think the Dubai World Cup would be very high on the list. Timing-wise it might suit better than a race like the Pegasus at Gulfstream Park in January, but we'll see,” he added. Herbert was also quick to credit Jamie Osborne and his team for successfully nursing the former stallion back to the racecourse. “Great patience has been shown by all Jamie's team and Jimmy McCarthy, who looks after him and knows the horse like the back of his hand, has been a phenomenal asset as well.”
