Keeneland has cataloged 1,892 horses for its Horses of All Ages Sale to be held Jan. 9-13. The catalog, which is now available online, includes 726 broodmares, 147 broodmare prospects, 732 yearlings, 280 horses of racing age and seven stallion prospects.
“The January Sale traditionally is a solid market for broodmares, broodmare prospects and short yearlings, which we expect will be popular because not all buyers filled their orders when weanlings were offered at the November Breeding Stock Sale,” Keeneland Vice President of Racing and Sales Bob Elliston said. “The January Sale also affords breeders the opportunity to replenish or upgrade their broodmare bands with many quality mares in foal to top stallions and numerous young broodmare prospects from which to choose.”
Grade I winners of this year, including Miss Temple City (Temple City) and Practical Joke (Into Mischief), were Keeneland January yearling buys, This term's yearlings represent top sires such as Awesome Again, City Zip, Distorted Humor, Exceed And Excel (AUS), Ghostzapper, Giant's Causeway, Into Mischief, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d'Oro, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Scat Daddy, Tapit, Uncle Mo, Union Rags, Verrazano and Violence.
Broodmares sell in foal to many of those tope sires as well as stallions like American Pharoah, Bodemeister, Honor Code, Kitten's Joy, Liam's Map, Speightstown, Tapizar, Shanghai Bobby and Declaration of War.
