Notable US-Bred Runners in Japan: Mar. 10 & 11, 2018

In this ongoing series, Alan Carasso takes a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here are the horses of interest for this weekend running at Hanshin and Nakayama Racecourses, with sophomores by WinStar stallions featuring prominently at maiden, allowance and group level:

Saturday, March 10, 2018
6th-NKY, ¥13,720,000 ($129k), Allowance, 3yo, 1200m
TSUBURANA HITOMI (c, 3, More Than Ready–Always Auditioning, by Mizzen Mast) faltered on the grass in his career debut last November, but finished third in his first two tries when switched to the dirt (at Kyoto Feb. 4) and found his way to the winner's circle with a two-length success at Hanshin Feb. 24. A full-brother to GSW Ready to Act, Tsuburana Hitomi is out of a full-sister to GISW Mast Track and a half to French G1SW Jemayel (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}). He was a $300K KEESEP buyback before fetching $200K as an OBSAPR breezer. B-Fred W Hertrich III (KY)

3rd-NKY, ¥9,550,000 ($90k), Maiden, 3yo, 1200m
HANAOGI (f, 3, Super Saver–Interim {Ire}, by Elusive City), whose dam is a half-sister to multi-jurisdictional G1SW Satono Crown (Jpn) (Marju {Ire}), was purchased in utero for $70K at KEEJAN in early 2015 and was sold for $3,000 at the 2017 FTKFEB sale. The August foal's SW & GSP second dam Jioconda (Ire) (Rossini) is also responsible for G1SW Lightening Pearl (Ire) (Marju {Ire}) and Jolie Jioconde (Ire) (Marju {Ire}), the dam of GSP Fast Approach (Jpn) (Dawn Approach {Ire}). B-Taihei Stud Farm (KY)

11th-HSN, Hochi Hai Fillies' Revue-G2, ¥99m ($933k), 3yo, f, 1400mT
MOLTO ALLEGRO (f, 3, Speightstown–Mo Chuisle, by Free House), a half-sister to the ill-fated champion Points Offthebench (Benchmark) and GSW Bench Points (Benchmark), has carved out a nice reputation, with three wins from five career runs, including a first black-type badge in the Listed Kobai S. (1400mT) at Kyoto on seasonal debut Jan. 14 (video, gate 8). The $525K KEESEP graduate has missed the top three just once when a competitive fifth to champion Lucky Lilac (Jpn) (Orfevre {Jpn}) in the G1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies last December.
