2016 Broodmare of the Year Leslie's Lady, the dam of Grade I winners Into Mischief, Beholder and Mendelssohn, has officially retired as a broodmare this spring. We visited the 25-year-old mare at Clarkland Farm and met her last two progeny-- a juvenile filly by Not This Time in training at Keeneland with Brad Cox named Marr Time and a yearling filly by Kantharos named Love You Irene.

Foaling Around with Blue Prize

Days after her victory in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff, Blue Prize was named the sales topper of the 2019 Fasig-Tipton November Sale when OXO Equine's Larry Best went to $5 million to purchase the $2.6 million earner for his growing broodmare band. She was initially paired with Spendthrift's Into Mischief and this year had her first foal, a filly foaled on Feb. 9 at Taylor Made Farm.

Foaling Around with Anapurna

Anapurna (GB) won the Investec Oaks, G1, in 2019 as well as the Qatar Prix de Royallieu, G1 for her owner/breeder Meon Valley Stud. On the 25th of January this year Anapurna foaled her first foal, a chesnut filly by Lope De Vega (Ire). Mark Weinfeld, Managing Partner of Meon Valley Stud, said of the foal "As you can imagine we're absolutely delighted, to have a filly as her first foal is fantastic." Anapurna is due to visit Dubawi (GB) this year.

Meet Claiborne Farm's First Catholic Boy Foal

This year Claiborne Farm is celebrating the arrival of the first foals from 2018 GI Travers S. winner Catholic Boy. We visited the very first Catholic Boy foal to arrive at the farm, a colt out of the War Front mare Line. Claiborne's assistant broodmare manager Mary Ormsby said these first foals reflect "exactly what we want to see in a freshman sire.

Foalin' Around with Elate's First Foal at Claiborne Farm

In this edition of our "Foalin' Around" series, we stopped in at Claiborne Farm and met the first foal out of Grade I winner Elate. Assistant Broodmare Manager Mary Ormsby worked with Elate when she was a foal at Claiborne, and said that this newborn filly is Elate's mini-me. Elate was one of the top racehorses of her division not long ago, but now she's thriving in her new career as a mother.
