No fewer than 83 different stallions and sires representing Kentucky, California, Florida, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Oregon and Washington are in this year's mix. The 56th annual WTBOA Summer Yearling and Mixed Sale was held Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion located at Emerald Downs racetrack in Auburn, Washington. After seven outs, 75 yearlings went through the sales ring. Topping this year's venue was Hip 71, a colt by first-year stallion Barkley (Munnings), winner of the 2018 GIII Longacres Mile before retiring to Nina and Ron Hagen's El Dorado Farms in Enumclaw. The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders & Owners Association (WTBOA) has catalogued 77 yearlings, one 2-year-old, and 17 broodmares for the WTBOA Sale, which will be held Tuesday, Aug. 22 at the WTBOA Sales Pavilion located at Emerald Downs in Auburn, WA. The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association (WTBOA)'s annual online stallion season auction kicked off Dec. 15 and will run through Dec. 22. A colt by Sir Prancealot (Hip 80) topped the 55th WTBOA Summer Sale when purchased by the PT Syndicate for $80,000. The sale's leading consignor, Terry and Mary Lou Griffin's Griffin Place LLC, also sold Hip 46, a Midshipman colt out of Washington champion Bella Mia for $76,000, and Hip 34, a son of Sharp Azteca, was a $70,000 purchase. The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association's annual online stallion season auction began Dec. 15 and runs through Dec. 22. In addition to stallion premiums, this year the WTBOA has added a chance for bidders to receive a bonus. Former Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association General Manager Ralph Vacca passed away in his home in Auburn, WA, July 20. He was 84. Among those surviving Vacca are children Darrell (Linda) Vacca, Melanie (Tom) Bidman, Dionne Stein, Kyle Vacca and Rachel (Rich) Pring; grandchildren, Rafe, Josh, Kevin, Garrett, Teddy and Julian; great-grandchild, Caelin; brother, Richard (Linda) Vacca.
