Laurel Cancels Remainder of Friday Program Due to Frigid Temperatures

Frigid weather across the country claimed its latest program as Laurel Park was forced to abandon the remainder of their Friday card after the first race as well as postpone the Saturday and Sunday cards. Saturday's ten-race program, highlighted by the Spectacular Bid Stakes for 3-year-olds and the Xtra Heat Stakes for 3-year-old fillies, has been moved to Wednesday, Feb. 4. Sunday's nine-race program has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 5. Laurel Park will run a Wednesday through Sunday schedule next week. The first post time is 12:00 pm ET....

NYRA Releases Revised Stakes Schedule, Proposed Added Race Days

The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has released revisions to the stakes schedule as well as a plan for additional race days to account for the weather-related cancellations at Aqueduct, the group announced via press release. In addition to NYRA, the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (NYTHA) and New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. Aqueduct and Woodbine Cancel Live Racing Sunday

Live racing at Aqueduct in Ozone Park, NY and Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada were cancelled Sunday due to high winds impacting much of the East Coast. Aqueduct abandoned racing following Race 2, while Woodbine cancelled after the day's third race. The National Weather Service forecast calls for sustained high winds and gusts in excess of 40 mph throughout the day. Baden-Baden Sunday Card Cancelled

Baden-Baden's 11-race programme was abandoned Sunday morning after areas of the Iffezheim venue were deemed unsafe for racing. Relentless downpours hit the track in the preceding days and, with more forecast, course officials were left with no option but to cancel. Sunday's features, the G2 Grosser Preis der Badischen Wirtschaft and Listed Silberne Peitsche, have been rescheduled for other meetings. Woodbine Cancels Remainder of Sunday Card Due to Inclement Weather

Shortly after announcing that the final three weeks of its Thoroughbred meet would be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, Woodbine was forced to cancel races seven through 13 on Sunday's card due to inclement weather, effectively ending the meet. Among the races cancelled Sunday were renewals of the GIII Grey S. for 2-year-old males and GIII Mazarine S. for juvenile fillies.
