Europe's Finest Bloodlines On Offer: Three Sales, Three Weeks, Three Countries

Sales of breeding stock are just as much a feature of the final couple of months of the year in Europe as they are in North America. In fact, the European sales have been an important fact of American bloodstock life since the early days of the sport, with many breed-shapers having been recruited in Europe before heading west to make history. Perhaps the most famous graduate of Tattersalls's December Sale remains La Troienne (Fr) (Teddy {Fr}). After a racing career in which, without winning, she notched up some minor...

There were three Grade I races on the grass for fillies and mares in North America Saturday; to the surprise of no one, Chad Brown-trained and Peter Brant-owned mares took center stage, following up In Italian (GB) (Dubawi {Ire})'s win in Keeneland's GI First Lady S. with a mild upset by Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) in the GI E. Peter Brant and Chad Brown enjoyed a productive GI Kentucky Derby week with victories in the GIII Modesty S. and GII Churchill Distaff Turf Mile S., and they picked up right where they left off Saturday with Michael Tabor getting in on the action. Le Haras de la Gousserie's 3-year-old Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) ran third in last year's G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, following up with a win in Deauville's Oct. 20 G3 Prix des Reservoirs, but was winless in six outings this term. Rougir Prevails in the Reservoirs

Haras de la Gousserie's G1 Prix Marcel Boussac placegetter Rougir (Fr) (Territories {Ire}) displayed no ill effects after her effort tackling ParisLongchamp's one-mile strip earlier in the month and knuckled down to register a first stakes success in Tuesday's G3 Prix des Reservoirs over the same distance at Deauville. The Cedric Rossi trainee had opened up with victories over seven furlongs at Chantilly and Saint-Cloud before dropping to fifth in the Aug. 1 G3 Prix Six Perfections and then running third in a Sept. 1 Lyon-Parilly conditions heat in her...
