Rain Limits Training at Santa Anita Thursday

Santa Anita's main track was closed Thursday morning and the training track was limited to only joggers following yet another rainstorm that hit the area this week. Track officials said just over an inch of rain fell on Santa Anita during this latest series of storms, which began Tuesday. With Rain Ongoing, Santa Anita Cancels Friday Racing

Due to ongoing inclement weather, Santa Anita has cancelled their Friday race card. Track officials said racing will continue as scheduled on Saturday and Sunday. Santa Anita will add a race day next week to make up for the cancellation. The track remains open for simulcasting on Friday.

Santa Anita has canceled Friday's card due to heavy rain forecast for the area beginning Thursday. Santa Anita was forced to cancel its New Year's Day racing card Sunday as steady rain soaked the Southern California area throughout Saturday night and into early Sunday morning. The rain began as a light drizzle Saturday morning, but increased in strength throughout the completion of the program, continuing throughout the night. Monmouth-At-Meadowlands Cancels Saturday Card

Due to a forecast calling for heavy rain, live racing has been cancelled for Saturday, Oct. 1, for the all-turf Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet, the track announced on Friday. The six races scheduled for Saturday will be extras when entries are taken Tuesday, Oct. 4, for the Friday, Oct. 7, card. The five remaining all-turf cards following tonight's program will take place Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 22 with the exception of Saturday, Oct. 15, when Far Hills will feature its 101st steeplechase meet.

Santa Anita Moves Friday Card to Monday

With Friday's weather forecast calling for a 90% chance of rain in Arcadia, Santa Anita Park, in consultation with the Thoroughbred Owners of California and the CHRB, will shift Friday's eight-race program to Monday, Mar. 7 with first post time at 12:30 p.m. Accordingly, there will be no re-draw, with Monday's program now scheduled as an exact replica of what had been planned for Friday.

Rain Forces Laurel Cancellation

Rainy conditions caused by Winter Storm Landon forced the cancellation of the live racing card at Laurel Park Friday afternoon following the third race. The first three races on the program were run over a sloppy and sealed main track. The weekly Stronach 5 wager, which was to begin with the eighth race at Laurel followed by races at Gulfstream, Santa Anita and Golden Gate, was also canceled. With persistent heavy rain falling and more in the forecast throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, Friday's live program at Pimlico was canceled after the second race. According to the National Weather Service, up to an inch of rain had fallen in the Baltimore area with another inch expected. The NWS also issued flood warnings for Central Baltimore County and Baltimore City. Tampa Announces Third Purse Increase

Tampa Bay Downs announced its third purse increase this season, which will go into effect with Saturday's card. Ongoing gains in simulcast revenue have led to another 10% boost, with an additional $2,500 for all allowance races and maiden special weights and $1,250 claiming and starter races. Several French Tracks Cancel Sunday Cards, ParisLongchamp Still Greenlit

Several racecourses have cancelled their Sunday cards due to the heavy rains and storms sweeping across France, Equidia reported on Saturday. A trotting card at Cazaubon was cancelled and rescheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12, while a mixed card at Vitre has been postponed for a yet-to-be-determined date. Saint-Brieuc's Thoroughbred card was also cancelled. The Arc card at ParisLongchamp on Sunday is still being held.
