Coolmore's Sioux Nation the Busiest Flat Stallion of 2025 with 282 Mares

For the third time in four years, Sioux Nation was the busiest Flat stallion at stud in Britain and Ireland in 2025, according to the Return of Mares, which has been published by Weatherbys. The son of Scat Daddy, who stands at Coolmore's Castlehyde Stud in County Cork, was usurped last year by his ill-fated stud-mate, Calyx, but he returned to the top of the charts during the latest breeding season, having covered 282 mares. A bay gelding by Poet's Word caught the eye of Ballyboy Stables' Denis Murphy and was knocked down for €52,000 to top the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale Part II on Friday. The 4-year-old filly Poetisa topped the first day of the Goffs Spring HIT/PTP Sale at Doncaster when selling to Harold Kirk and Willie Mullins for £300,000.
