Earthlight And Mehmas On Top As Young Sires Star At Goffs November Foal Sale

It was a day for the young guns at the opening session of the Goffs November Foal Sale on Monday with a colt by Earthlight (Ire) sharing top lot status with a filly by the already proven Mehmas (Ire) at €80,000.  The progeny of the Irish National Stud-based Lucky Vega (Ire) also played a leading role on the day with Yeomanstown Stud's Supremacy (Ire) going down similarly well with buyers.  But the main story of the day was the positive start to the week in terms of trade, highlighted by...

Irish National Stud Holds or Lowers Fees in “Challenging Times”

The Irish National Stud is either maintaining or reducing the fees for its six stallions "after a challenging yearling sales season, especially in the middle and lower tiers", according to a press release sent out on Thursday. The venerable Invincible Spirit (Ire), who turns 27 in 2024, is listed with a private fee, having stood for €60,000 in 2023 following a career high of €120,000 between 2016 and 2019. His top runners this season include the unbeaten G2 Royal Lodge S. winner Ghostwriter (Ire) and he covered 89 mares earlier...

Nando Parrrado Keeps Delivering for the McCartans

Paul and Marie McCartan know a thing or two about Nando Parrado (GB), having bought him as a foal, raced him, and retained part-ownership of the son of Kodiac (GB) since his retirement to the Irish National Stud. They were, therefore, pleased to be able to welcome the G2 Coventry S. winner's first foal on Saturday at their Ballyphilip Stud.  The filly foal is a daughter of Cafetiere (GB) (Iffraaj {GB}), who was herself a winning juvenile over five furlongs and is a half-sister to G3 Prix du Bois winner...

Lucky Vega To Stand For €15,000

Lucky Vega (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), who stands his first Northern Hemisphere season next year at the Irish National Stud, will debut at €15,000. Raced by Yulong Investments, Lucky Vega won the G1 Phoenix S. at two and placed in this year's G1 2000 Guineas and G1 St James's Palace S. before retiring to stand at Yulong's Australian headquarters. Also new at the Irish National Stud for 2022 is last year's G2 Coventry S. winner and G1 Prix Morny and G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere runner-up Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac...

Commonwealth Cup Goal For Supremacy

Last year's G1 Middle Park S. winner Supremacy (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) has wintered well, according to trainer Clive Cox, and will stick to sprints for his 3-year-old campaign, with the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot his key early season target. Cox said the G3 Pavilion S. at Ascot on Apr. 28 and the G2 Sandy Lane S. at Haydock on May 22 are under consideration as starting points for the colt. "Supremacy will stay at six furlongs, so we're looking at the Pavilion, the normal sprinting route--with possibly the...

Supremacy To Swerve Morny

Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) will be Clive Cox's sole representative in next weekend's G1 Prix Morny after the trainer revealed that his G2 Richmond S. winner Supremacy (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) will sit out that contest and potentially head to the G2 Gimcrack S. at York on Aug. 21. Nando Parrado has not been seen since winning Royal Ascot's G2 Coventry S. at 150-1, having missed his last intended target in the G2 Prix Robert Papin. "We are very keen on Nando Parrado heading in that direction, who I think...

Nando Parrado Out Of Papin

Sunday's G2 Prix Robert Papin was set to be a showdown between Royal Ascot winners Nando Parrado (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) and The Lir Jet (Ire) (Prince Of Lir {Ire}), but that clash will have to wait with Nando Parrado having turned up lame on Friday morning. "I'm afraid Nando pulled out a bit sore this morning," trainer Clive Cox said of the 150-1 G2 Coventry S. winner. "It's a huge disappointment, but we know we've got a serious horse on our hands and we just can't take the risk. It's...

Nando Parrado Given Morny Target

Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}), who became the highest-priced winner in Royal Ascot history when winning last week's G2 Norfolk S. at odds of 150-1, will target the G1 Prix Morny at Deauville on Aug. 23. "We're looking towards that. That would be our plans and thoughts at this stage," said trainer Clive Cox. "It would be a logical step from here." Cox said Marie McCartan's colt didn't handle Newmarket's undulations when fifth on debut on June 4, and thus was not surprised by the bay's improvement in the Norfolk....

Another For Kodiac As Nando Parrado Causes Coventry Shock

There was a piece of history made in the G2 Coventry S., as Clive Cox and Adam Kirby united to land the spoils with Nando Parrado (GB) (Kodiac {GB}) who at a stunning 150-1 is the longest-priced winner in the modern era at Royal Ascot. While his price was probably hugely inflated given that virtually every one of the 2-year-olds in this line-up was an unknown quantity in this irregular season, Marie McCartan's bay had not exactly shone when fifth on debut over this trip at Newmarket June 4. Always...
