Brother To Luxembourg Tops Final Orby Session

KILDARE, Ireland--A hugely impressive Group 2 winner with Classic pretensions is just the kind of update every breeder dreams of within days of a major yearling sale, and that is exactly what Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}) delivered in the Beresford S. at the Curragh on Saturday on only his second start. He had himself been sold by breeder Ben Sangster for 150,000gns but his brother, offered as lot 366 through the Castlebridge Consignment, caused the same buyer MV Magnier to dig deeper into his pockets for the colt to become...

€1.2-Million For Luxembourg's Full-Brother

The Castlebridge Consignment's Camelot (GB) colt out of Attire (Ire) (Danehill {Ire}) (lot 366) received an excellent update over the weekend when his 2-year-old full-brother Luxembourg (Ire) won the G2 Beresford S. at The Curragh for the Coolmore partners and Westerberg, and it was Coolmore principal MV Magnier who extended to €1.2-million to purchase the yearling at Goffs Orby on Wednesday.

Buzz Is Back At Goffs As Galileo Filly Brings €1.5m

KILDARE, Ireland--Galileo (Ire) may be gone but his influence will loom large for decades to come and, for the next few years, in the sale ring too. With a Galileo filly atop the leader board, bought for €1.5 million by MV Magnier, it felt like business as usual at the Orby Sale, back in its rightful home in Ireland after a Covid-induced move to England last year. It goes without saying that a yearling by Galileo will be out of a decent racemare or producer and lot 152 is the...

Dubawi on Top Again as Arqana Lights Up

DEAUVILLE, France--The second and final session of the select part of the Arqana August Sale lit up in ebullient fashion with two seven-figure yearlings, including the €2.4-million sale topper by Dubawi, a half-sister to Group 2 winner Babylone (Fr) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}). Charlie Gordon-Watson made a significant impact on the day's action when acting for an unnamed client and signed for the filly (lot 108) out of Typique (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) shortly after bidding €525,000 for lot 99, a filly by Frankel (GB). The sale leader was consigned by Haras...

Into Mischief Colt on Top at Saratoga

Magnier, is training steadily for his return to the races, most recently working five furlongs in 1:00.00 (4/21) Thursday at Santa Anita for trainer Bob Baffert. "He's doing well," Baffert reported following the work Thursday. "We just freshened him up." Racing for Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith, and Michael Tabor, as well as co-breeder St. Elias Stable, Cezanne opened his career with a 2 1/4-length victory going 6 1/2 furlongs last June...

Beach Season at Tattersalls on Tuesday

by Chris McGrath and Emma Berry NEWMARKET, UK—The subject of many bloodstock headlines prior to the Tattersalls December Mares' Sales, Beach Frolic (GB) (Nayef) proved eminently deserving of the attention, even if she was denied the standing-room-only reception usually reserved for the stellar lots during this typically blockbuster session. A depleted 'Covid' gathering greeted her on her arrival in the ring, but the bidding was soon opened at a million gns by Julian Dollar, with Rob Speers and online bidders also getting involved in the earlier rounds. Eventually, as is...

Siyouni's Etoile Holds On in E. P. Taylor

Etoile, a beaten favorite in her two prior North American starts after being transferred to Chad Brown, came through with a victory in Sunday's GI E.P. Taylor S. at Woodbine, giving red-hot Siyouni (Fr) another top-level success in the same Peter Brant colors as that stallion's G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe hero Sottsass (Fr). Two-for-two to open her account for Jean-Claude Rouget last winter at Cagnes-sur-Mer, the bay was a neck runner-up in Longchamp's G3 Prix Vanteaux before annexing the G3 Prix Cleopatre at Saint-Cloud. A close fourth in...

Galileo Son of Prudenzia Lights Up Deauville

The Galileo colt out of Ecurie des Monceaux's crown jewel Prudenzia (Ire) (Dansili {GB}) shot to the top of the leaderboard during Thursday's second session of the Deauville Select Yearling Sale when hammered down to MV Magnier for €2,000,000, with David Redvers the underbidder. Magnier is plenty familiar with the family, having bought the colt's full-sister, Group 1 winner Magic Wand (Ire), for €1.4-million to top this sale in 2016 and their Classic-winning three-quarter sister Chicquita (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) to join the Coolmore broodmare band for €6-million from Goffs November...
