Turf Paradise To Close Oct. 1

Turf Paradise will no longer offer live racing or simulcasting beginning Oct. 1. Jerry Simms, the owner of the Phoenix-based track, announced Monday that after 23 years of operating the race track, he is retiring to spend more time with his family. Turf Paradise also maintains 37 Off Track Betting sites throughout Arizona, which televise the live product and simulcasts from other race tracks across America for the purpose of wagering. Sky Racing World To Simulcast Racing From Hipodromo Chile

Hipodromo Chile has been added to Sky Racing World's content portfolio of International Racing it was announced Thursday. Following excessive rain overnight and throughout the morning and after a consultation between track management and the stewards, a joint decision was made to cancel Friday's card at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots. Live racing will resume on Saturday, Dec. 31 with the regular post time of 1:15 p.m. CT. Laurel Cancels Again

Laurel Park cancelled live racing again Friday, Jan. 7, due to winter weather that disrupted the area and later added that racing would be cancelled through the weekend, according to a press release from the Maryland Jockey Club (MJC). A Monday snowstorm had resulted in the cancellation of training earlier in the week and the Maryland track also cancelled live racing Thursday. Laurel Cancels Live Racing Thursday

Laurel Park, the Maryland track with a new dirt surface that was hit by winter weather this week, cancelled the Jan. 6 nine-race card due to the continuing effects of the winter storm, announced the Maryland Jockey Club (MJC) Thursday. The storm brought sleet, freezing rain, and snowfall to the area. Laurel, as well as Pimlico, Rosecroft, and the MJC OTB Network, will remain open for simulcasting. Live racing at Laurel is scheduled to resume Friday, Jan. 7. First post is 12:25 p.m.

Colonial Downs Summer Tickets on Sale Monday

Virginia's Colonial Downs Racetrack will host live racing this summer from July 19-Sept. 1 with premium tickets going on sale Monday, Mar. 15. General admission is free. The seven-week meet will have racing every Monday-Wednesday with a daily first post of 1:45 p.m. Colonial will award approximately $500,000 in daily purses with more than $2.75 million devoted to the stakes schedule. Laurel Reopens to Public on Limited Basis

The Maryland Jockey Club has been the green light by state and county officials to reopen Laurel Park to the public on a limited basis beginning with the Thursday, Oct. 15 program. The move stems from gaining approval from Anne Arundel County, where Laurel Park is located, in addition to Maryland Gov. Racing returns to Evangeline June 5

Evangeline Downs is marking its return June 5 with the first of 50 live racing nights featuring a nine-race program. The season had originally been scheduled to kick off Apr. 8. The season's highlights include Louisiana Legends Night, held July 4, as six stakes races will be run with purses totaling $360,000 and dual divisions (2-year-old colts and fillies) of the D.S.
