February Sale

Stallion viewings have continued apace this week throughout Europe, with many breeders descending on Newmarket farms following the Irish Stallion Trail, while the Route des Etalons is currently underway in Normandy. There remains no official stallion trail in Britain despite there having been a number of calls over the years for an emulation of the popular incentive which began in France and was swiftly picked up by Irish Thoroughbred Marketing. Arqana has announced that its forthcoming mixed sale will be held over one day on Wednesday, February 12 owing to a "more streamlined offering". The February Sale, which has traditionally stretched to at least two sessions, will feature just shy of 300 short yearlings, fillies, mares and horses in training. The catalogue will be available online on Thursday, January 23. Action will get underway in Deauville at 10am local time. Together For Racing Ireland (TfR Ireland) hosted a group of 30 fifth year LCA students and teaching staff from its three current partner schools: Curragh Post Primary, Kildare Town Community School and St. Paul's Secondary School at Goffs in Kildare on Thursday, Feb. 10. The objective of the Goffs tour was to give students an insight into the Irish bloodstock industry, its position as a world leader and its many rewarding opportunities. With the Irish sales having suffered more upheaval than those in Britain over the last two years, Goffs will be relieved to be starting 2022 in more regular fashion by hosting its three-day mixed February Sale live at Kildare Paddocks. Last year's event was held in two stages online in February and March, but in easier conditions the sale this week gets underway with a group of horses in training, before progressing to 2-year-olds, short yearlings and then breeding stock, with fractionally over half the 599-lot catalogue consisting of yearlings....
