Shocking Grey (Grazen), winner of Saturday's Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint at Santa Anita, sold for $170,000 to Francoise DuPuis, agent for Rockingham Ranch to top Tuesday's California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Winter Mixed Sale. A 6-year-old out of the Unbridled's Song mare Seoul Unbridled, Shocking Grey was from the Checkmate Thoroughbreds consignment for the dispersal of Valpredo Farms. CTBA Winter Mixed Sale Includes Valpredo Dispersal On Tuesday, Jan. 21

The 2025 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association (CTBA) Winter Mixed Sale, which includes a special 22-horse dispersal from the farm of Donald Valpredo, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Noon PT in the Hines Pavilion at Fairplex, the organization said in a release on Friday. Valpredo, a California industry leader and former President of the CTBA, passed away in November. Handling the consignment will be Checkmate Thoroughbreds. CTBA Winter Mixed Sale Catalog Available

The catalog for the 2025 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Winter Mixed Sale is now online. The sale will be held Tuesday, Jan. 21 at 12 noon at Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex in Pomona. A total of 143 horses have been cataloged for the sale. Of that total, 25 are yearlings, 75 are 2-year-olds and 24 are pregnant mares. Online bidding will be available.

Excellent Art Mare Tops CTBA Winter Mixed Sale

Poster Girl (Excellent Art {GB}), a stakes-placed broodmare in foal to California stallion Halladay, sold for $70,000 to top Tuesday's California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Winter Mixed Sale at Fairplex. The 10-year-old, consigned by Checkmate Thoroughbreds, was purchased by Cedros Bloodstock. She has a yearling filly by More Than Ready. The highest-priced 2-year-old at the sale was Rachael's Ride (Clubhouse Ride-Slalom, by Bodemeister). Purchased for $43,000 by Nick J. Hines, agent for M. Gains at the CTBA Winter Sale

The one-day California Thoroughbred Breeders Association (CTBA) Winter Mixed Sale, held Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Fairplex, closed with significant gains over the 2021 edition. A total of 113 horses were sold for gross sales of $1,298,407, with an average of $11,490 and a median of $5,200. At last year's Winter Mixed Sale, 73 horses were sold for a total of $575,100, an average of $7,878, and a median of $3,200.
