Foal Crop Dips Again in 2020

The Jockey Club (TJC) released breeding statistics Monday, which indicate that the 2020 North American foal crop will be about 20,500, a 3.4% decrease from the prior year. A total of 1,552 North American stallions covered 31,198 mares in 2019. The matings have resulted in 19,677 live foals of 2020, a figure that is 3.4% lower than the one reported at this time last year. The 2019 Irish horse racing and breeding industry statistics were released by Horse Racing Ireland on Monday. During the past year, the number of horses returned in training in Ireland rose 3% to 8,949, with new owner registrations up by 6.8% to 851 new racehorse owners. These were split into 600 new sole owners and partners and 216 new syndicates. Calumet Farm Tops Breeders List in 2019

Calumet Farm has topped the individual breeders list in North America in 2019 with $12,545,854 in earnings, according to statistics released Wednesday by The Jockey Club Information Systems. Calumet Farm bred 410 starters with 332 wins, 310 seconds and 323 thirds out of 2,435 starts. Kenneth L. Ramsey & Sarah K. Ramsey was second with earnings of $8,249,834 with 276 wins out of 1,779 starts.
