Apprentice jockey Joseph Bealmear earned the first win of his career when guiding We Miss Arlington to victory in the second race at Oaklawn Park Saturday. We Miss Arlington was the 11th career mount for Bealmear, according to Equibase, and came almost 44 years after his father, retired jockey Ben Bealmear, recorded his first career victory at Oaklawn. Trainer, Former Jockey Larry Bates Passes Away

Larry Bates, a longtime Florida horseman, has passed away. He was 77. Bates won 454 races as a trainer, enjoying stakes success with Regal Joy, winner of the 1995 GIII Joe Namath S., and Black Diamond Cat, who won the Bob Umphrey Turf Sprint and Major Moran S. in 2011 and the Housebuster S. and Montbrook S. in 2013.
