Weir Breaks Winners Record

Trainer Darren Weir has broken the Australasian record for the number of winners trained in a season. It took Weir's 335th winner, achieved with Gun Case (Aus) (War Pass) at Moonee Valley, to break the previous best, set by John Hawkes back in the 2002/03 season. Reflecting on his achievement Weir told racing.com, “Setting records was never part of my plan, you don't get time to think about it. You go to the races, go home, get organised for the next day, go to bed, get up, and do it all again.” Weir, who trained last years G1 Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance (Aus) (Pentire {GB}) continued, “I really enjoy the horse-training side of it, I'm not that keen on any other side of it, but I've got great people who do that so big thanks to all of them.”
