Dettori Back In Milan

Frankie Dettori | Racing Post

Frankie Dettori will be back at San Siro on Sunday after a three year absence from the track where he originally made his debut. The Italian top jockey, now retained by Al Shaqab Racing has been booked to ride Dylan Mouth (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}), the hot favourite for the G2 Gran Premio Di Milano, the race won by all the Italian Champions, from the legendary filly Archidamia to Nearco, Donatello, Botticelli, Ribot, Tony Bin, Falbrav, Electrocutionist and many others. The Gran Premio Di Milano has been downgraded this year for having not achieved a sufficient average rating in recent years and the decision was a bitter pill to swallow for Italian racing fans. The defending champion Dylan Mouth will bid for the double, an accomplishment achieved six times in the past, the last in 2008/2009 by the gelding Quijano (Ger) (Acatenango {Ger}).
Dylan Mouth, who has a record of 6 for 7 at San Siro, moved from the yard of Stefano Botti to the one of his brother Marco at Newmarket after his third Group 1 win last year in the Premio Roma. That win is the reason for his comeback with Botti commenting, “He is forced to carry a seven pounds penalty or run straight in a Group 1 so we decided to send him to San Siro were he will face just a one kilo penalty against  lesser opposition.” The main danger for Dylan Mouth appears to be Circus Couture (Ire) (Intikhab), the second string of owners Scuderia Effevi. The chestnut, who remained in training with Stefano Botti, was narrowly beaten by Dylan Mouth in the Premio Roma but he has never ran over more than 2000 meters and stamina is a question mark over the demanding 2400 meters of the famous San Siro's pista grande.
