West Point & Head of Plains Buy into Originator

Gulfstream | Adam Coglianese

West Point Thoroughbreds and Head of Plains Partners have purchased an interest in impressive Jan. 14 Gulfstream Park debut winner Originator (Artie Schiller–Costume Designer, by Capote) from owner Denholtz Stable. Trained by Ian Wilkes, the 28-1 shot overcame a troubled trip to score a good-looking, come-from-behind victory going five furlongs on the lawn (video).

“I was at Gulfstream last Sunday with West Point partner Rob Masiello, and was blown away by this filly's turn of foot in the last sixteenth of a mile,” West Point President Terry Finley said. “I went right down to the winner's circle and let Ian know we wanted in! Ian is a class act, and we're excited to have a promising filly in his care.”

Bred in Kentucky by George Krikorian, Originator RNA'd for $30,000 as a KEESEP yearling and brought $70,000 as an OBSJUN juvenile.
