Wesley Ward Exacta in Saratoga's Bolton Landing

Stillwater Cove | Sarah K. Andrew

Stillwater Cove (Quality Road) led home a one-two finish for trainer Wesley Ward in Wednesday's Bolton Landing S. at the Spa. Removing blinkers here, the 10-1 chance chased in a close-up fifth behind her stablemate, G3 Prix du Bois runner-up Chelsea Cloisters, through an opening quarter in :21.98. She began to roll with a flashy, three-wide sweeping move on the far turn and kicked clear in the stretch to score by 1 3/4 lengths over the aforementioned pacesetter.

“We had a nice lead for her [Chelsea Cloisters], but the other filly was just better,” Ward said. “I've always had high hopes for this filly [Stillwater Cove]. She's a big, long, rangy filly. She looks like she's going to go two turns. Hopefully, we can get her to relax and route, and see her in the [GI] Breeders' Cup [Juvenile Fillies Turf] in the fall.”

Stillwater Cove sped out to a lengthy early advantage and held on to graduate by a nose over the Keeneland dirt Apr. 8. She entered off a 13th-place finish in Royal Ascot's G3 Albany S. June 22.

Stillwater Cove is the first foal out of her dam Celibataire, a maiden of two career starts and full-sister to MGSW Interactif. She had a filly by War Front in 2017, a colt by Union Rags in 2018 and was bred back to Gun Runner.
