In this continuing series, we take a look ahead at US-bred and/or conceived runners entered for the upcoming weekend at the tracks on the Japan Racing Association circuit, with a focus on pedigree and/or performance in the sales ring. Here is one horse of interest for this Sunday running at Kyoto Racecourse:

1st-KYO, ¥10,600,000 ($69k), Maiden, 3yo, 1900m
CHRONUS BULLET (c, 3, Global Campaign–Above Heaven, by Mr. Greeley) has one start under his belt, a useful third-place effort going 1700 meters at Kokura Jan. 25. The March-foal's dam is an unraced daughter of Lady Joanne (Orientate), winner of the 2007 GI Alabama Stakes and subsequently purchased by Chiyoda Farm's Dr. Masatake Iida for $1.6 million in foal to Tiznow at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. Iida also acquired Above Heaven–who sold in utero for $1.25 million at Keeneland November in 2009–for $320,000 carrying to Forestry at KEENOV in 2013. The latter mating comes into focus given that the stakes-placed third dam Oatsee (Unbridled) produced Classic winner Shackleford to the cover of Forestry as well as MGSWs Baghdaria (Royal Academy) and Afleeting Lady (Afleet Alex); and SW & GSP Stephanoatsee (A.P. Indy). O-Yukio Yamada; B-Chiyoda Farm (KY); T-Keiju Yoshimura.
