Buy Sell Hold became the first winner for her freshman sire (by Medaglia d'Oro) when she cruised to a 4 1/2-length score in Lexington Apr. 20, and she was installed the narrow second choice to become that Hill 'n' Dale resident's first stakes winner as well. Chasing favored Wesley Ward representative McErin through an opening quarter in :22.15, the roan ranged up with a powerful move to vie for command into the lane. McErin fought back gamely and wouldn't go away for the entirety of the stretch as fellow filly Amberspatriot chipped away at the top two's advantage.. Buy Sell Hold hit the line a head or so to the good, and Amberspatriot nailed McErin on the line for an all-filly exacta.

“She's very nice,” said winning pilot Florent Geroux, who will also get a leg up from trainer Steve Asmussen when he rides Hence (Street Boss) in Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby. “She's well-bred and well-behaved. That's why she won today. She broke sharp and got herself into a good position despite the post. She showed a lot of heart and ability today.”

Asmussen added, “She's a very special filly. The second dam is Lady Tak, one of my favorite horses of all time and a millionaire. This filly started out at my dad's place in Laredo, Texas, and he did a phenomenal job with her. She came over for only her second race and acted very professional and was ready to go.”

Asmussen trained 2003 GI Test S. and 2004 GI Ballerina H. heroine Lady Tak for Heligbrodt Racing Stable. Buy Sell Hold is the first foal out of Melody Lady, a stakes winner for Hill 'n' Dale, Edward McGhee and Asmussen at Sunland in 2013. She produced another Violence colt in 2016, and most recently dropped a colt by fellow Hill 'n' Dale resident Bayern. Violence annexed the won all three of his starts at two, capped by the 2012 GI Cash Call Futurity. Horses from his first crop have been well-received at this year's 2-year-old sales, bringing an average of $157,814 to put him fourth among his peers on that list.
