Encumbered, a well-regarded maiden winner earlier at the meet, overcame a wide draw to double up in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf S. Sunday afternoon and continue trainer Simon Callaghan's dream stand.

Debuting in the Santa Anita Juvenile S. July 3, the $225,000 OBS April buy was a respectable fourth behind undefeated GSW and stablemate Run Away (Run Away and Hide), but he showed his true ability with a game graduation over course and distance July 30. Made the second choice in this 14-horse war, the bay was angled over to the two-path from the 13-hole and tracked from a distant fifth behind a tearaway leader through splits of :22.91 and :46.23. Angling into the five path at the top of the lane as the leader started to retreat, Encumbered swept to the front in midstretch before holding on gamely by a long neck over My Boy Jack, who was also runner-up to him in the aforementioned July 30 maiden spot.

The victor is the second stakes winner for his freshman sire (by Medaglia d'Oro). His second dam, Domludge (Lyphard), is a half to three-time European champion Mrs. Penny (Great Nephew {GB}) and a full to Cadeaux d'Amie, the MGSP dam of MG1SW Hatoof (Irish River {Fr}) and GISW Irish Prize (Irish River {Fr}). Dying to Dance has a yearling filly by Exchange Rate and a weanling filly by Noble Mission (GB). Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
