The Jockey Club Elects Four New Members

Dr. Stuart Brown

Dr. Stuart Brown, Walker Hancock, Carlos Heller and R. Alex Rankin have been elected to The Jockey Club, it was announced Tuesday.

Dr. Stuart Brown is a former president and current member of Lexington, Ky.'s Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, which he joined in 1991. He is also a member of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission and serves on the boards of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and Kentucky Thoroughbred Association (KTA)/Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders (KTOB). He is a vice chair of the Gluck Equine Research Foundation, and was named 2014 Veterinarian of the Year by the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.

Walker Hancock became president of his family's Claiborne Fam in Paris, Ky. in 2014. He is a 2012 graduate of the University of Florida, where he majored in Animal Sciences and minored in Agricultural Sales and Marketing. He has been involved in Claiborne's operations since the age of eight, and has had a wide range of work experiences within the Thoroughbred industry.

Carlos Heller is president of Chilean conglomerate Bethia Holding and the chairman of Club Hipico racetrack in Santiago, Chile. Don Alberto Corp., a subsidiary of Bethia, purchased the former Vinery Farm in Kentucky in 2013 and Don Alberto has become a major player in the bloodstock market internationally since then under Heller's direction. Heller's late grandfather Alberto Solari was a prominent owner/breeder in Chile, and Heller's mother Liliani Solari is the principal owner of Haras Don Alberto.

R. Alex Rankin has served as an independent director at Churchill Downs, Inc. since August 2008. He has also previously served as president and board member of the KTA; president and director of the Kentucky Derby Museum; director of Breeders' Cup Ltd.; and director of KTOB. Rankin is chairman of the board of Sterling G. Thompson Company in Louisville, Ky., and president of Goshen, Ky.-based Upson Downs Farms, Inc.
