Telescope Out Of King George

Highclere Thoroughbred Racing's Telescope (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) has been ruled out of Saturday's G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. after suffering a minor setback, and will now target an autumn campaign.

“It's frustrating for everybody involved, obviously,” said Alex Smith, managing director of Highclere. “It is only a minor setback and doesn't look anything serious. It's just come at the wrong moment, unfortunately. It's disappointing for his owners, who had been building up for a big day, but he'll be fine.”

Telescope, a 'TDN Rising Star', won last year's G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot before finishing second to Taghrooda (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) in the King George. The 5-year-old would have been on a recovery mission Saturday, having most recently recorded the worst finish of his career with sixth in last month's Hardwicke.

Telescope's trainer, Sir Michael Stoute, will still be represented in the King George by the Hardwicke winner Snow Sky (GB) (Nayef).
