Quorto, the first and only foal so far out of the Listed Swettenham Stud Fillies Trial S. winner and G1 English and Irish Oaks third Volume, was quickly away but held on to early tracking fellow Godolphin runner Handmaiden (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) behind the leading trio. Sent by that filly and into the lead approaching the furlong marker, the 9-4 second favourite drew away in impressive fashion to record an emphatic 2 3/4-length success, with the 11-8 favourite Alnasherat (GB) (Kingman {GB}) a further neck behind in third having set a decent standard after his debut third at Leicester last month. Quorto, who is the first Dubawi juvenile to win in 2018, was excelling at a trip way short of his optimum here being out of a mare that saw out a mile and a half well enough to be placed in two Classics. She is also a granddaughter of the G1 Prix du Cadran heroine Victoire Bleue, who is also the dam of the G2 Prix Hubert de Chaudenay and G3 Prix du Lys winner and G1 St Leger runner-up Vertical Speed (Fr) (Bering {GB}). Victoire Bleue’s second dam Virunga (Fr) (Sodium {GB}) took the G3 Prix de Malleret and was placed three times at the highest level including when third in Prix de Diane. Her three black-type winners are headed by the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois hero Vin de France (Foolish Pleasure).
