Cornucopian (c, 3, Into Mischief–Magical World, by Distorted Humor) left his backers in little doubt on this unveiling, running his competition off their feet and on to 'TDN Rising Stardom'.
Away quickly from the gates, the son of the venerable Into Mischief flashed good early foot as the 3-5 favorite and sailed along through :21.86 and :45.50 splits while 34-1 longshot Oil Capital (Maclean's Music) tried to make a race of it. Hounded relentlessly by that one going into the bend, he was well in control coming into the home straight and the question then was how much he wanted to win by.
Applying a generous closing kick, he came in with air to spare, officially 5 3/4 lengths, as Zero Sugar (Twirling Candy) and Oy Gevald (Game Winner) battled for the respective minors a long way behind him.
Cornucopian is the 49th 'TDN Rising Star' for his sire. He was purchased in utero with his dam in 2021 at the Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars by the Whisper Hill/Three Chimneys partnership for $5.2-million.
The victor is the third offspring for his dam Magical World to get the stamp of approval from the TDN, following in the footsteps of elder sisters MGISW Guarana (Ghostzapper), $1,078,268, and SW & GSP Magic Dance (More Than Ready), $191,083. The former has an unplaced 3-year-old by Into Mischief named Mischievous Intent. Also a half-sibling to the group is GIII Fair Grounds Stakes victor Beatbox, $427,248, who was exported to Turkey last year to continue his stallion career.
Magical World has been an extremely productive broodmare as she tallies five winners from seven to race. Her most recent to reach the age is 2-year-old Touch of Magic, a full-sister to Cornucopian who sold to breeder Three Chimneys Farm for $250,000 as a yearling in last year's Keeneland September sale. The mare is due to Good Magic for 2025.
The pedigree is rife with Grade I success as second dam Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold) won the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Belmont Park, and was twice placed at the elite level in addition. In addition to Magical World, she also accounts for GISP Pleasant Orb (Orb) and the dam of MGSP Tale of S'avall (Tale of Ekati). Her full-sister MGSW & MGISP Country Hideaway enjoyed similar successes in the breeding shed as the dam of MGSW & GISP Boca Grande (A. P. Indy), who in turn claimed SP Barrier Island (Speightstown) to her credit. Said sister also produced GSW Vacation (Dynaformer), who retired to become a leading sire in Venezuela.
A third full-sister named Matlacha Pass also went on to stardom as the dam of MGISW Point of Entry (Dynaformer), MGISW Pine Island (Arch) and SW Bokeelia Island (Medaglia d'Oro). Her line has produced GSW & GISP Great Island (Scat Daddy) as well as GSW Surprisingly (Mastery). A fourth whole sister produced multimillionaire GSW-Jpn Birdie Birdie (Jpn) (Brian's Time).
