Godolphin already have two high-class 2-year-old sons of Shamardal in their considerable store and they could have another as Victor Ludorum (GB) streaked to an impressive success in Sunday's Prix de Fontenoy at ParisLongchamp. Settled in the final four from his wide draw in this newcomers' event for colts and geldings, the 7-2 joint-favourite was given a squeeze on the final bend and the response was generous enough for him to ease off the gas once straightened for home. Sweeping to the front with minimal encouragement from Mickael Barzalona approaching the final furlong, the homebred bay cruised to a facile 3 1/2-length verdict over Twist (Fr) (Pivotal {GB}) without his rider needing to move. Mkfancy (Fr) (Makfi {GB}) was a further 1 3/4 lengths away in third, while the other 7-2 joint-favourite Musical Mast (Mizzen Mast), the son of Flute (Seattle Slew), was fifth.

The April-foaled bay is out of the smart Antiquities (GB) (Kaldounevees {Fr}), who was runner-up in the G3 Prix Cleopatre before producing the useful ex-Fabre runner Ancient History (Ire) by Shamardal and the classy filly Mary Tudor (Ire) (Dawn Approach {Ire}). Before her untimely death last year, she took the Listed Salsabil S. and was third in the G1 Irish Oaks and G2 Debutante S., SW & G1SP-Ire, $116,385. The second dam is the Listed Prix Rose de Mai scorer Historian (Ire) (Pennekamp), one of two stakes winners out of the G1 Irish Oaks heroine Helen Street (GB) (Troy {GB}) alongside the legendary G1 Dubai World Cup and GI Stephen Foster H. hero and leading sire Street Cry (Ire) (Machiavellian). Helen Street is also the second dam of Shamardal himself, meaning that she features 3x3 in Victor Ludorum's pedigree. Antiquities also has a yearling full-brother to Mary Tudor and a filly foal by Invincible Spirit (Ire) to follow.
